WHAT is Ireland’s leading arts and health programme and brings arts experiences to the bedside of patients at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and other healthcare settings. Music is at the heart of the work of WHAT and this is a great opportunity for a person interested in music to gain valuable experience in this growing area. Applicants must be eligible for Community Employment. The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday 17 August at 4pm (see below for details).
The role of the Music Co-ordinator/Administration Assistant involves working with and supporting the WHAT panel of musicians who deliver the Healing Sounds programme at UHW and the Iontas Arts and Mental Health programme at a number of settings in the wider Waterford community.
Claire Meaney, Acting Arts Director of WHAT, adds “The Music Co-ordinator is an important member of the team at WHAT. There is a mountain of evidence attesting to the positive impact music has on wellbeing, so we are constantly seeking to increase and improve the music initiatives we can offer patients at UHW and in the community healthcare settings where we work. This is a very rewarding role and it’s important that we get the right person for the job. If anyone would like to have a chat about the role before applying, we would be delighted to hear from them”.
Established in 1993, WHAT provides opportunities for patients at University Hospital Waterford and other healthcare settings to experience the arts through music, visual art and creative writing initiatives. WHAT believes that the arts contribute to the wellbeing and vitality of society and that engaging with the arts stimulates the participant’s sense of identity and creativity. WHAT supports the development of arts and health in Ireland and manages the national website www.artsandhealth.ie
Please note: Applicants must be eligible for Community Employment (typically in receipt of a social welfare payment for 12 months).
To apply, please email Claire Meaney, ClaireA.Meaney@hse.ie with your CV (including contact details), a letter of application, and the names and contact details of two referees, by Friday 17 August 2018 at 4pm.
