Pianist Thomas Mearon brightens our lunch break on Piano Day!
International Piano Day takes place on the 88th day of the year to reflect the number of keys on a standard piano. In 2019 it falls on 29 March.
The brainchild of German musician/composer Nils Frahm and his friends, Piano Day began in 2015 to celebrate this marvellous instrument through innovative, piano-related projects. Now an official global body, Piano Day is celebrated all over the world and welcomes all kinds of piano lovers: young and old, amateur and professional, of any musical direction to share the centuries-old joy of playing piano.
Other events in Waterford to mark Piano Day include performances at John Roberts Square by local musician Killian Browne and at various locations around Waterford by José Salum. A grand finale concert that night features celebrated pianists including Marion Ingoldsby, Brian Dillon and Doug Lowe. Tickets are available from Eventbrite.
