We are delighted to present a collection of paintings by artist Boyer Phelan on the Staff Art Wall. Boyer’s paintings will be on view until 16 November 2018.
Originally from Dublin, Boyer has been working with Waterford Healing Arts Trust for 12 years and is a familiar face at UHW, as she can often been seen with her Art Kart in the Renal Dialysis and Paediatric Wards. “The Art Kart has given me the opportunity to meet hundreds of lovely children and their families and it has also been very special to meet many dialysis patients in a very different setting.”
Boyer’s own style has evolved over the years from figurative to more abstract, and she lists among her favourite artists Matisse, Brancusi, Pierre Bonard and Sarah Purser. She explains “I am inspired by a wish to articulate something I find special, to capture the magic and pass it on, share it. The element that excites me may be about colour, light or form, or the whole shebang. My most recent work includes watercolour in pared back abstract form.”
Originally qualifying as a veterinary nurse, Boyer then went on to study contemporary dance and, later, fine art in London. Having moved to Waterford with her family, she subsequently trained in childcare at Dungarvan VEC, and ultimately returned to making art.
The Staff Art Wall is an initiative of Waterford Healing Arts Trust which aims to celebrate the creativity of HSE staff by providing an opportunity to display their work at the hospital. Further info about exhibiting on the Staff Art Wall is available from firstname.lastname@example.org / 051 842664
